A Field Programmable Analog Array for Embedded Systems

Analog filters are generally more energy efficient than their digital equivalents. Overall power consumption can therefore be reduced by shifting a part or all signal processing tasks into the analog front-end. A field programmable analog array ideally suited for the task at hand is presented and evaluated. It uses Gm-C filters arranged in a hexagonal grid allowing for complex filter structures. The structure and the filter coefficients can be reprogrammed digitally via boundary scan.
