We want to present the potential of embedded microsystems in context of an autonomous blimp. To address the challenges of tiny microsystems with a weight less than 150g, low power consumption, and high reliability the graduate school Embedded Microsystems develops a platform to evaluate different techniques and their possibilities. Some approaches are power management strategies, real time operating systems, efficient classification techniques, wireless communication with mobile sensor nodes, wake up strategies for these sensor nodes, filter aided inertial and absolute position measurement, and the implementation of customized sensors.
The goal of this evaluation is to build efficient microsystems which are able to interact with their environment through different sensors and actuators and solve localization, planning, and other fundamental tasks which are required for intelligent behavior.
